The Seattle Chess Club hosted the Washington Chess Federation President’s Cup the weekend of February 14-15. Winner of the Open Section was Gabriel Tafalla with a score of 3.5/4 followed by Daniel Phillips, Eric Zhang, Vernon Van Poucke and Noah Yeo tied for 2nd-5th with 3.0/4.
The winner of the Reserve Section was Cheyenne Zhang with 4.5/5 followed by Joey Yeo with 4/5.
The 2015 Seattle City Championship took place January 16-18 at the Seattle Chess Club. The winner was Kyle Haining with 4.5/5. Kyle won all 4 of his games and took a bye during the 4th round, presumably to watch the Seahawks game. Viktors Pupols took clear second with 4 points and tied for 3rd-5th places were Kevin Gafni, Yevgeniy Rozenfeld, and Brendan Zhang with 3.5 point.
The Reserve Section (U1800) was won by Carlo Del Mundo with a perfect 5/5 score and in second place was Dave Juchau with 4 points.
Fred Kleist was the tournament director and there were a total of 44 participants.
The Seattle Chess Club is looking for volunteers to assist the club. We need volunteers for the following positions:
The volunteer work will be available during weekend tournaments and our regular Friday night monthly tournaments. Contact Fred or Carol Kleist and volunteer during any time that the club is open. Your assistance will be greatly appreciated! Many employers will pay the club for your volunteer work now that the club is a 501(c)(3) recognized non-profit corporation.
WA State Chess Champion NM Nat Koons will be giving a 20 board simultaneous exhibition from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm on Saturday January 17, 2015. The entry fee is $10. The location is the Seattle Chess Club.
The Seattle City Chess Championship is this coming weekend!. It’s a 5 round swiss tournament with an Open and Reserve (U1800) section. You can sign up to play in either the 3-day schedule (starting Friday night) or the 2-day schedule (starting Saturday morning). Check out the details on the calendar page.
The Seattle Chess Club is proud to announce that we have been granted 501(c)(3) Tax Exempt status by the US Internal Revenue Service. Donations to the chess club are now tax deductible! This has been a long-held desire of the Board and will be an integral part of our plan to grow and sustain the club.
